What's the Most Cost-Effective Format?

Fernandina town map

Which format is most cost-effective? To provide a feel for this, let's look at a single product that is available printed on museum-quality matte paper, the same matte paper framed in wood, aluminum, and white birch wood.

It's our town map of Fernandina, Florida from the early 1800s. We've included our $8.95 flat shipping fee since that is clearly a higher percentage of total cost for smaller purchases.

As you can see, for the smallest items prices don't increase much when adding a wood frame or considering a wood or aluminum print. On small items, the wood frame, metal, or birch wood don't add much weight, but that changes with larger sizes where we have to bake a significant part of the shipping cost into the product price. There may also be additional weight from the packaging needed to ensure that a piece arrives securely, although for matte prints (paper), they ship rolled up so the shipping cost is never very high.
